Reducing front strap checkering bite

Snagged one of the blem Springfield TRP's that got released, for the price it was an automatic buy.

I had one 2012-2016 where I put close to 23k through it, with only one single malfunction. Had a large thread on arfcom but it has since gone to archives.

Only complaint I had was the aggressive bite of the FSC.

Assuming a refinish is required, would a smith be able to knock down the points? If it's annoying and that is an option I could send it off for that and refinish in ionbond, etc.

Given enough time and money, most good smiths can get you almost anything you want. ;)

Fortunately, in this case I don't think it's too involved to gently blunt that infamous Springfield 20lpi; you will need a refinish unless you have a stainless TRP. I'd reach out to some of the excellent smiths posting here on the forum, either through PM or their websites and get a quote.

Don’t let nobody give you no crap about dulling down checkering : I was attending Gunsite and on the third day encountered some Yost dude. He asked if I needed my checkering sharpened and then laughed like a madman. It seems years later he might not be so crazy…

That's good stuff.

I have grown to very much appreciate 25lpi and nowadays I really like 30lpi checkering. I have 20lpi on a few and I don't mind it. I owned a GI and their style of 15lpi works as well.

We all like something a little different and that's OK. I would rather do high volume shooting with 25 or 30lpi these days.

It's a ghetto fix but my newly purchased TRP has the same aggressive FSC. It was too sharp for me.

My temp fix is 3M Durapore surgical tape. This was not from exhaustive research, just looked like a good option. It turned out well enough that I have pulled it off and will reapply some more neatly. If I had some Talon grip tape I would use some of that, or just buy their ready-cut piece.
