Is it OK to replace series 70 bushing with std solid GI bushing just as a drop in?

It could greatly affect your accuracy. The bushing should be sized according to OD of the barrel and ID of the slide bore. If your split bushing is not broken and fits the slide muzzle and barrel well, I'd leave as is.

Edit: above advice also sound you can custom order a bushing based on these 2 dimensions and EGW will make one that fits. If you're not sure how online then give them a call they'll advise you.

Well, let's define Series 70 Bushing here -

Do you mean an actual Series 70 "accurizer" collet bushing from an actual 70 Series Colt made in the 1970s?

Or do you mean a standard every day 1911 bushing from a gun you're calling "70 series", or possibly from one of the new made Colt repros which didn't actually incorporate the main Series 70 change, which was the bushing and barrel...?

My understanding was actual 70 Series "accurizer" bushings had barrels of a different profile because of the fingers, and it might be better to rebarrel them if needing to replace the bushing with a non-collet bushing? Someone will need to correct me if I'm wrong here. The only 70 Series guns I've owned had replaced barrels and bushings; none of them had the original collet bushing so I wouldn't know from experience.

EGW makes good stuff. Again 1911 parts are not necessarily drop in. I bought this tool from Brownell's for fitting the EGW bushing and got a good enough fit to require a bushing wrench to take it out. Very pleased with the fit.
