Hi, just wondering if anyone has used the Shield Arms Z9 G43 magazines. I recently installed the Shield Arms mag release along with using the Z9 mags, and noticed that the slide would lock back with 1 round remaining on the mag pretty regularly. I thought it was due to me using a high aggressive grip, but I relaxed my grip and the same thing would happen. Also it would happen on the exact same round count in the magazine. My wife, who does not grip as high as I do, experienced the same issue. I have 2 of those mags, and it happens more often to one than the other.

I did contact Shield Arms about the issue and they sent me a new set of springs and followers. However, that did not solve the problem.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Just thought I'd give you a quick updated.

I took my 43 out today. It ran 100% with the TTI +1, +2, and the Vickers +2. All three mag extensions came with longer springs. And the Vickers +2 are on sale at Midwayusa for $12.20 with 3 color options, if you don't want to pay the big money for the TTI's.

The TTI +1 is shown in the gun. Probably the best option for grip/concealability.

Thanks for the reply. Yep, I have read issues about the S15 mags. However, I haven't found as much real world feedback on the Z9 mags.

I have thought about the 43X, but I have a G48 on order. I figure a 43X would be redundant because I could create my own X by taking off the 43 slide and putting it on the 48 frame.

I may just go back to the OEM mag set up. Thanks again!

I just picked-up a 43 & did some research on these mags. If you google these mags, you'll see that these and the Shield 15 rounders for the 43x/48 are hit and miss. You may find a cure to this problem in one of the searches, but most people just go back to the factory mags and add a +1 or +2 extension.

I decided to try some Taran Tactical +1's & +2's and the Pearce +1 grip extenders. The Taran +2 extender comes with a longer replacement spring. MagGuts also make a replacement spring/follower to increase capacity in a factory mag by 1 or 2 rounds. And these usually have good reviews.

I've ran the Shield 15 rounders in my 43x without issue until yesterday when I had a failure to chamber. I may go back to the factory 10 rounders now.

IMO, if you're trying to add longer mags to the 43, you've now increased the OAL grip length. If you're doing that, you might as well pick-up a 43x or 48, as you've now made the grip just as long. And either slide will interchange with either frame, giving you 4 different combos using just 2 guns. I plan to run the +1 for carry, and the +2's as back-up mags.

Like with any mag or extender, you need to try it in your particular gun for 100% reliability.

Here's one thread I found on Glocktalk.
