The organized shooting sports, USPSA, IDPA, etc., have pretty well defined descriptions of mods that are legal/illegal. Go to their website and get to the rules, then look at Appendices to see the gun requirements for each Division. Generally, slide cuts are OK except (I think) Production. You're 2011 can have slide cuts in the divisions it qualifies for. Open division allows comps and (I think) ports. Outlaw matches are just that... rules vary.

USPSA Limited optics is a 9mm , optic ready pistol division they started to include all the new guns with optics
It allows slide cut through to the barrel but no Comps. Comps put you in open class

IDPA has carry optics where 1911/2011 optic guns can be used .
I don't know if you can have cuts on the slide through to the barrel, definitely no comps

thanks! I looked up the rules and both carry optics and limited optics say barrel comp and barrel port “no” and slide port as “yes”.

so I assume slide cuts are fine, anything directly done to the barrel is a no.

IDPA allows for compensators and ported barrels that are part of the gun, such as the Prodigy Comp and Staccato XC:
A.2.3 ESP Permitted Modifications
A.2.3.1 See Allowances and Restriction in 8.1.6 and 8.1.7 in the IDPA Rulebook
A.2.3.2 Compensated and ported barrels that are incorporated into the firearm.

So, no frame or rail mounted compensators, such as the Underworld Arms rail comps for 2011s. I use my XC in IDPA all the time, IMO that is the top IDPA legal gun.

I was just wondering if I say bought a prodigy comp, and also purchased an original non comp’d Springfield barrel. Could I swap the barrel in and still shoot uspsa competition if I wanted. Since the barrel isn’t comp’d or ported at that point. But the side will still have a cut in it.

or if I had a gun ported (ie cz shadow or similar) but also purchased a stock barrel to swap in for uspsa events.
