The things we have to do here in a ban state to own a semi-auto rifle with detachable magazines and other features (flash hider, pistol grip, thumbhole stock, collapsible stock over all length of 30" etc.)

I sold my STG77 40th anniversary edition here on this forum before i moved back to CA (family reason). I should have figured out a way to keep it.

Enter the A3 with extended rail as my new AUG. I bought it from Candu Rat Worx and they were gracious enough to take off the flash hider and install an extended muzzlebrake to get over the 30" OAL requirement for CA compliance. I then had to procure a fin grip to allow the use of detachable mags.

At first i added a Vortex Sparc Solar and 3x magnifier and it looked great. However, one of our forum members posted a Steyr 1.5 optic that were on the original AUGs. I bought it and installed it to make it as close to possible to an original AUG.

Very cool. I really like that og scope. Just completes the vibe in my opinion.
Being a kid of the 80’s, I’ve decided I need to add an AUG to my bullpup collection. Thankfully, these can be converted to left hand eject. How’s the accuracy in yours? I’ve read a trigger job is a must on these and do wonders

I have not fired it yet. So no accuracy report at this time.

The trigger was upgraded before delivery. It is smoother than stock. This is the mod:

The standard AUG is the one to get.
When I got mine, I could only find a NATO model. I eventually bought a standard stock and trigger pack. Speaking of the pack, the Steyr spring kit us the way to go, IMO. I have s 20/20 sear in a trigger pack, while it is a lower felt weight than stock, I think it’s mushy. The spring kit keeps the crisp break….if there is such a thing with the AUG

How do you like the optic?
I would love to try one.

Anyone know the "takedown" length of an AUG? If you pull the barrel, is the max dimension less than 20"?

I the know AUG wasn't designed as a takedown rifle. But given how easy it is to pull the barrel, I'm wondering if this is a platform that could be disassembled to fit neatly into a backpack.

I love my original black AUG as well. In fact, at the risk of a mob coming after me, I much prefer it over an AR.

My only problem is that I will never be able to sell it if I wanted too. I bought it at the very peak of the Clinton AWB. You can easily buy 2 AUG’s and then some for what I paid.

Only thing that keeps me from agreeing with this statement is the trigger. I'm too much of a trigger snob to let that go...

If I could have a Geissele SSA-E in the AUG, then it would be absolutely perfect.

Ratworx had an AR trigger pack some time ago, and I passed on the overpriced GunBroker offerings... Never got to test one of those out.

Prior to getting my AUG I had all sorts of plans for trigger upgrades. After what I had read I was prepared to experience the worlds worst trigger.

As soon as I received it, I checked the chamber and dry fired it........OH MY GOD.....wait, what....That was actually pretty good. I compared it against several AR15's with mil-std triggers I had on hand, and it was substantially better than any of them. It wasn't as good as the aftermarket triggers I have, but it was not the disaster I had read about.

After reading about problems with much of the aftermarket AUG triggers, I decided to go with reliability. Leaving mine factory.

I used them in an unmodified trigger pack. I put them in a standard trigger pack. The 20/20 I have is installed in the NATO trigger pack. I’m not currently using that stock

when you reinstall the hammer in the trigger pack, the hammer spring ends will be upward. There is a ledge in the pack that these spring ends need to be retained under. I modified a small screwdriver with a Dremel slot that allows the screwdriver to capture the spring end, allowing you to manipulate the end into place. there is one in the room and I did not care tomorrow but the spring or the housing.

#1. OP, I feel sorry for you. Living in a non-free state must suck.
#2. OP, You can buy a 20 inch AUG barrel.

On other topics, I have AUG and Tavor SAR. I need more range time.
I like the Tavor for mag changes and the trigger isn't bad. But mine patterns, it doesn't group.
I like the AUG, but the trigger is ridiculously heavy. I now know the fixes.

Anyone have a Des. Tech. bullpup? It may be the best solution for me vs. trying to get the Tavor or the AUG up to SHTF standards.

I have both the .556 and .308 MDRX (as well as AUG, VHS2 and Tavor 7)
The Desert Tech guns that I have both have very good triggers and group well. The DT also has aftermarket trigger pack options if you want to take that route. I think for accuracy, your best bet is either the DT or VHS2 (Springfield Hellion)
