Hello everyone,

I've been reading and watching as many reviews on the dan wesson tcp in 45acp as I can find.
I'd like to see if I can collect a few more reviews/experiences with the tcp in 45.

My current carry is a p2000sk in 40 and my only 1911/2011 is a commander 2011 in 10mm I built.

So for those who have shot the tcp in 45, recoil wise how does it stack up to other firearms? I'm specifically looking at the tcp because it has every feature I look for. The only thing I'd change on it is a fiber optic front sight.

This would be my first venture into 45acp ownership.

I'm not a big dude, 5'7 185lb muscular build, I appendix carry, not recoil sensitive. Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks

If you are shooting a 10mm 2011, I don't think that you will have any problems with a TCP in 45.

Are you worried about quality of the pistol, or what? I don't think quality would be a problem. I've had 3 DW pistols and they were good, one was even great. Finding a holster to fit, that might be a problem.

Here are my 2 solutions to the Commander sized 45. I like steel frames in 45:

When I go to the range I typically shoot 200-300rds out of each pistol I bring.
I'm not so worried about quality, more of I wouldn't want to get into 45 using something that recoils more than my 2011 commander 10mm. If I bring out my 2011 and my current carry hk in 40 after I'm done shooting 200-300 out of each I start having more fatigue than I'd like.

With the tcp it's essentially everything I want looks wise, I'm just unsure about aluminum frame 45 and felt recoil. I don't want the 45 to match recoil of the 10mm and not have the power to back it up.

I carry a TCP in 45 acp every day! At the moment my carry round is a Underwood 230gr +P. It packs in a TT Gunleather Reinforced Mike's Special IWB. I have (2) other DW Valors. One a 10mm and the other a VBOB in 45 acp. IMHO, the best 1911 for the $$$$. I'm running the DW/Checkmate mags and Tripp Research (8) round Cobra Magazines. I think the TCP is Dan Wesson's best kept secret.

I have a TCP as well, mine is in 9mm though. Everyone who shoots it loves it and wants one. It’s the perfect “tactical” 1911 in my opinion. Carrying it is doable but not nearly as comfortable as my ECO. The TCP gets carried while I’m working at home. ECO gets carried out and about where printing is less of a concern.

I have (2) EPCs which are TCP first cousins. One in 9mm and one in 45acp. They are wonderful carry guns, designed specially for carry. I really hardly notice any difference in recoil vs. my steel framed 45 commanders. The only gripe I have about mine is the front brass sight is difficult see. I need to replace them sometime. These are early models, not sure it DW still puts brass sights on the newer models. I cannot image the recoil being stiffer on a TCP 45acp than a 10mm 2011 although I'm not a 10mm shooter.

OP,
You will probably be about the same recoil wise With The TCP as your P2000 SK. That HK is a small light pistol with a little bit of pop in .40 owned one, great pistol with the Lem trigger.

2-300 rounds of 45acp 230 ball can get tiring in a LW Framed 1911? 185 & 200 gr 45acp could be an alternative.

Thank you for the direct comparison.

My p2000sk is a light lem, I enjoy it way more than I thought I would. When ever I go to the range with it, it's a minimum of 200 rounds but usually closer to 300. With 300rds I'll start feeling it to where I'll start pulling shots.

For hp rounds I was looking at 185gr and range ammo would be 200gr

Still looking for the right 45 dw tcp (cheap) to pop up, but im also considering springfield range officer champion also if I can find one cheap enough to justify octo front strap cut and tri topping the slide.

In my mind the dw tcp with the springfield octo cut front strap sounds about perfect.

I have a TCP in 9mm and it’s the one pistol everyone loves to shoot. Makes every look good at the range. I absolutely enjoy it, carrying it is a challenge unless it’s winter for me. I prefer the ECO for everyday carry. It is an excellent piece, both of mine are in 9mm. I have nothing against 45, for me id prefer a government all steel model in 45 like the specialist but I wouldn’t carry that. It would be a home defense pistol for me.
