I have Streamlight TLR-7As on my two Shadow Systems pistols. I really like their switches and light output is really pretty good for a single battery compact light. There is a similar TLR-9 for full-size pistols but from the videos I've seen the light output is disappointing.

With a longer gun like a 2011 there is quite a shadow above the line of sight with the 7A but am wondering if anyone has this combo and has actually taken a low light course with it to have experience knowing if the shadow cast is a real issue or just a perceived one?

Real reason for asking is I stuck a Surefire X300 on the original Staccato I got and with a Tenicor Malus Sol holster it was almost impossible to sit down with it. I'm having no such issues with the G17 sized Shadow Systems MR920Ls and the TLR-7A on it.

Taking into account everyone is built differently and I’m going to assume you’re carrying AWIB, since you mentioned the Malus Sol, one trick is pull your waist band up as you sit. That should keep the light and muzzle from squishing sensitive body parts. Playing with the ride height of your clips might also help (or the combination of the two).

FWIW, my EDC is a 4.6” 2011, SFX300U in a Malus Sol.

Also, I don’t have experience with the TRL7, but I don’t care for the shadows that are cast when parts of the gun interfere with the cast of the light (Pistol or rifle). In most practical cases, you’ll still be able to PID whatever your target is because any light that illuminates the area is going to help when you go from no light/low light to 300-1200 lumes.

With that said, for me it’s distracting, and if I can help it, prefer not to have it.…especially left/right (ie right mounted light on a rifle where there’s shadows created on the left side of the barrel/muzzle device).
