Beats me. At present this and other general gunboards are high on Atlas, but posters on Benos are talking about specialty shops and gunsmiths I never heard of.

 

I’d go Atlas Artemis/Erebus, Vudoo Priest, or Staccato XL/XC. You will get a nicer gun from one of the custom smiths but you are going to wait 12+ months. Atlas, Vudoo, & Staccato you should be able to find in stock somewhere.

 

I think the Erebus or the Priest for 3 Gun Open makes a ton of sense. I don't really want to wait for a custom gun; I am thinking that I would spend that money on an Open gun. Or I might just end up buying the CZC A01 Open gun they teased during Shot Show

 

What’re the top 2011s for Limited Optics USPSA and Open 3 Gun?

I see a lot of Masterpiece Arms (MPA) DS9s in USPSA limited optics competition now a days. Custom builds, but some vendors have versions of the DS9 in stock. I also see the Atlas Artemis often in limited optics.

 

DS9s are on my short list - I've heard good things about them

Sounds like you’re already aware, but just in case, keep in mind comp’d guns aren’t allowed in Lim Optics in USPSA (bumps you to open where you really need a full open gun), will be more useful in 3gun.

Atlas guns are usually a pretty solid pick - fairly easy to obtain (IE no long lead-time / often available off the shelf), reliable and from what I’ve seen pretty high quality. Recent price increases means they have gotten up there in price for what you get (IMO), they used to be a really good value two or so years ago, but still not too bad given more broadly higher end 2011s have gotten pricey. But Atlas was started as a competition-oriented company so has a lot of options catered to it.

Have been hearing good things about the Vudoo Priest for the price - they have a steel grip option too (which Atlas generally doesn’t for 9mm guns). MPA is a pretty good value too though I heard some hit/miss things about quality on some early guns. Have heard it’s been fixed but not a ton of experience personally.

Infinity of course on the high end, but with the most recent business model of set model pieces and the fact that they sell out instantly, probably a no-go in current form. I’d want to chose my specific options for that money.

Generally my take is that it’s pretty diminishing returns in the 2011 Lim Optics world as long as your gun runs reliably.

 

I appreciate your thoughtfulness in this! I am shooting to be GM in USPSA this year with my PCC (and I have hit GM for PCCO/RFRO/RFPO in Steel Challenge) - so I need a new challenge

Vudoo Priest was on my short list as well - and I wanted to get the steel grip version. I think Atlas value per dollar has dipped significantly with the price increases - but at the same time, my top end LO guns (which will do me just fine - I know - lol - I just want an excuse to buy something fancy) are a DWX and P226 X5 STAS - so it would be nice if it was appreciably improved.

Infinity is probably not on my short list. I agree with your take overall. I think it comes down to (with wide price ranges) Atlas, MPA, Vudoo. I for some reason have a mental block with Staccato

 

What are you currently shooting in both? Ranking?

 

I mainly shoot USPSA with my PCC - I am M, almost GM with that, and want to do some new stuff. Usually I shoot my pistols at knockdown matches or Steel Challenge, with the occasional 3 gun match thrown in. For SC I am GM with RFPO, RFRO, and PCCO... so I have an idea of what I like gun wise but was curious about what people recommended!

To answer your question directly: Unranked in LO, currently have a DWX cut for a 507Comp and a P226 X5 STAS, both of which are more than serviceable

Still shooting a CZ SP-01 Tactical when I shoot in matches.
