Several months ago I held and shot a Nighthawk president pistol. I was very impressed with the look, feel, fit, and shooting. However, I’d never felt anything but a staccato at that point (shot in Athena a little later) so I can’t compare it to other brands.

I’ve tried to learn about the nighthawk but there are many contrasting opinions - some call them the best 1911 manufacturer out there, others call them overrated and overpriced. Seems the wait time is more than 2 years

What are the top 5 pistols they make in your humble or not so humble opinions, and what is their niche? Why buy one over an atlas, a quantico, etc. I know visually they are works of art, but how do they hold up performance wise compared to those others?

1. Sandhawk
2. TRS Comp
3. BDS9

Not sure on the rest. I’ve owned 2 and 3, I’ll own a Sandhawk at some point. As for comparing them to other brands, I prefer Atlas to NHC. I shoot them better, I prefer the Atlas trigger, the build quality of an Atlas is at least on par with NHC imo, I also like the Atlas looks better but that’s completely subjective. Can’t give you the ACW as I haven’t owned or shot one but I should have one soon and will come back and post my thoughts if I remember.

Last part first
Do they hold up performance wise - yes no doubt , I have a NH GRP 9mm that has over 30k rounds and it just keeps ticking . I replace the recoil spring and adjust extractor every 10k and it has never had a hiccup. Just completed a class that we shot 700 rounds or so in a day and it was hot and filthy - not one malfunction.
I trust my life to NH , they make beautiful firearms , they have the best customer service in the business and they are like minded patriotic Americans and I feel good about spending money with them . I have quite a few Hawks in the stable with a couple builds on the way .

My favorite models :
Treasurer
Falcon
Counselor
Warhawk
T3
T4

I didnt list the GRP or Trooper because I view them as more of a starting point to build a gun off of currently I have a custom Trooper on order with hand stippled slide etc . The only negatives I find about NH is the lead time . I would rather wait for a well built pistol than get a sloppy gun fast .
Good luck 👍

Make sure you are asking people who actually shoot their Nighthawks.
There are many who just take 'em out of the safe, fondle and drool and put them back.

@Dwvalor is legit.

He's a Shooting Addict......not a Fondling Addict.

Seems the wait time is more than 2 years

Just my $.02

I have over 24k rounds through my Sandhawk and have been shooting with success in USPSA open minor division. Truly love the gun, I trust it, it operates exceptionally well and I’ve yet to experience a problem… but there are a few minor criticisms:

• The finish is not as durable as a DLC or anodized coating. Not the end of the world, you don’t need to baby it, but a holster will start to rub it off.

• Competition magazines (Atlas & MBX) will make contact with the feed ramp and cause erosion on the corner over time. I haven’t had any feeding issues, but it is certainly noticeable to the naked eye. NH recommends having the feedramp profiled/shortened slightly to remedy.

• The grip safety functions perfectly. So much so that during aggressive fire if your grip shifts you’ll get what looks like hammer follow. You can ask NH to pin it for you if you want or use a ranger band.

• The recommended service schedule of the recoil spring is 1,500rds. Again, it’s a $7 wear item on a $6k pistol - it costs me more in gas to get back/forth to the range than a spring does… but it’s worth noting that other builders have figured out a longer service life.

• The mag release button is on the smaller side and there aren’t additional options to leverage from the custom shop. Takes a little extra training to get quick with. Others have a wider range of options or at least drill/tap for a extended button.

My growing Flock of birds. I know its silly but they all have nicknames. These are not the Nighthawks you seek. One thing i find interesting is Nighthawk's discontinued models.

Yes, Me Precious top right. The Fonz in the center. Ferdinand low left. and My Little Pony. I'm working on the 5th spot now. So far 2 in 9mm and 2 in 45acp. All handle well and get exercised regular.

Since the only one I’ve handled is my Falcon, I’m going to go with that. It is outstanding!

Mighty nice Hawk.
A worthy gun for some of @Gripwright beauties.

First time I saw a Falcon was on here. It had some features that really appealed to me.

Placed my order for a Falcon and waited it out....somewhat patiently.
It was well worth the wait.

The funny thing is that the Falcon was my second Nighthawk ordered, but the first to arrive.

The TRS-Comp took a while to complete.

It's been a damn solid shooter, too.

I’ve owned 2 NHC, a Talon II and a Heine PDP ( I think was the name). It was the only custom .45 I shot that felt truly different. I’m into 2011’s now so Atlas is my go to , but NHC makes great guns. Not just show toys. And their craftsmanship is top notch.

My LGS carry’s NHC guns and when you look at the gun RDS ready, you can’t even see the seam in the frame. It’s crazy clean.
