Vintage Springfield Armory Trophy Match opinions?

Sorry no photos and I hope this is the correct section for my question as I think this pistol I'm researching is somebody's old competition gun.

At my LGS I spotted an interesting looking thing in the used case and found it to be an older Springfield Trophy Match. It's blued with no front cocking serrations, blacked out BoMar style adjustable sights, but I can't remember what they were marked as..... Clark style ribbed slide top, a well blended mag well, checkered walnut grips, beavertail that looked really nicely done and a wide shelf ambi safety. It had a ridiculously huge stainless/ checkered mag release of unknown make that was obviously added in later, and very nice what appears to be hand checkering on the front strap. I can't remember if the MS housing was arched or not but it was also checkered. Full length guide rod. The blueing showed a lot of good honest wear from real use, but didn't seem abused. The slide action was tight and smooth as buttered glass. Trigger was light and crisp. The only thing that really concerned me was that the chamber/feed ramp had obviously been super duper polished and throated to the point to where I don't know if that could cause issues with hot loads or something.

Anyway the thing really struck a chord with me. I wasn't looking for it, but I can't stop thinking about it. Im not a huge Springfield fan but this was one slick gun and I can't find any examples online that were blued, checkered and lacking the front serrations.

For under $900 should I do it, or would it be a potential nightmare that someone modified beyond practicality?

I understand there's no way to be sure here but anyone with experience with these particular models are welcome to chime in. Id be buying it for mostly a range toy but Id probably carry it sometimes if it was reliable...

Thanks everyone.

You can ask your LGS to hand cycle some JHP rounds through it and see if it has any issues. I have a Trophy Match in stainless, and it is very nice. I would say that the simplest way to think about it is that it's a TRP with adjustable sights. Mine has 20 LPI front strap checkering and some serrations on the top of the slide. If it feels tight and cycles without incident, then it's a question if it feels good in the hand. For $900, I think it's a solid deal. I paid $1250 for mine used several years ago.

Thats a beaut, thanks for posting it Mike. I will definitely get some pics posted in here as soon as I pick it up.
My local gun store has a bullet trap in the the back and they let me strip it down and test fire a magazine. It functioned 100% with 7 of mixed steel case/aluminum and bass rounds out of a coffee can lol and I didn't see anything funky going on with the brass afterwards. I was afraid the chamber might have been wallered out too hard because of the extreme polish job...

I got it picked up finally. Here she is after a good cleaning and oiling and replaced the grip screws. I am going to post another thread with a photos of the internals and some questions but all I need for it is a decent 8 or 10round magazine, and GI guide rod/plug setup and some properly fitting magwell cut grips. I'm really happy about it and its a great 1911 to get me back into the scene.
