Anyone have the old version?
I signed up for one w lipseys when they come in. I’m curious. The new version is double price of the old version

Seems like they should have saved the “perfect 10” tag line for a 10mm version…

I’m a little stunned this exists (didn’t see this discussion until now.)

Yes, I got one of the first versions and it was almost surely one of the very first one sold to the public (industry folks got them long before me.)

Not sure I understand WHY they want to market an enhanced version for twice the price when they hardly delivered any examples of the first version.

When the first 5.0 was debuted, I was casually interested and the price determined whether or not I would play.

With this price on the Enhanced? Not sure why in the hell they believe folks will want this.

I have not looked, but I have seen ZERO of the original gun available any where at any time EVER outside of Tombstone Tactical which is the retail outlet for any gun direct from Rock Island.

I got my 5.0 early and now almost a year later (having seen ZERO availability of any from any source) I had just assumed that I got in on the ground floor of a failed, dead platform.

Neat pistol, I will probably tuck mine away and sell it as a collectible hard to find oddball 20 years from now.

No , comes tomorrow

Paid $1499 from davidsons
Lipseys calls today with one $1388. Ughhh I get to over pay $110

they are $1522 on GB and I wondered how sellers could offer that price. Now I know how.

probably the last gun I buy from Davidson’s

unless it shows up before noon I won’t get to shoot it tomorrow

Showed up today. I spent 10 minutes examining and playing with the gun. I’ll shoot it tomorrow. Here’s my initial 10 min opinion

Grip is plastic. Feels a bit cheap. No back or front panels to accommodate hand sizes. My hands are average guy large hands and it felt fine. Grip isn’t amazing in any way.

Frame I believe is metal, maybe aluminum . It is semi gloss and appears to be cerakote as I can see orange peel on it.

Slide I believe is dlc and is matte. I found a casting flaw in 1 spot. I’m anal and was looking for flaws . There’s a pic of it. It’s very minor but I think the only other guns I’ve ever seen with it was a $350 SA and some ww2 guns made w slave labor.

over all appearance is fine/ typical. A bit odd that 3 different materials and 3 different finishes imo .

trigger pull is very nice. Take up is 1/2”+ which to me is a bit excessive, but break is crisp and light. I’d call it a target trigger . Reset is average (not a target reset)

sights are great
Optic plates included
3 mags - high polish look great
Hammer is exposed out the back which I find a very odd design choice.see pic
Slide moves very smooth. Main spring is very noisy when going back and forth. It’s not as smooth as a high end cz or stacatto, etc but it’s smoother than a Glock or similar. Pulling the slide back it feels a bit higher end but not amazing like a XC or Atlas.
Over all feel is very front heavy. Balance is horrible but I assume it will help recoil . Back end of the gun is a feather and middle to front is a brick. One thing I saw mentioned by a reviewer 8 months ago with v1 5.0 was how the back of the grip was high but it was ruined because the trigger is very low. Not sure I would have even thought about it but I was looking for this issue, it sure feels like that is an issue. Grip it high and point your index finger and your 3/4” above the trigger . You have to angle your grip down in front to get to the trigger. Mag release the same. You have to break your grip to get to it. It’s 1/2”+ too low.
My feelings are mixed whether I’ll like the gun. I want to like it. Spending more time and shooting it may make me say wow. I know already it’s not going to be a Dwx or XC. It’s most likely not going to blow me away. I like unique guns and this gun defines that category to me.

At $1600 the gun should be all dlc , have different grip panels and not have the minor flaw I found

Shot 150 rounds today . Accuracy started out very poor for me. 6-8” at 15 yards and you could feel a hitch when the slide closed- it was catching on something. The manual said 150 break in period and the hitch went away and smoothed out at 100-125 rounds. It’s much smoother now. The extra long trigger I feel hurts its accuracy. I was also shooting my 2 X6’s and my 365 x macro. All of which I was shooting awesome 1-2” groups. On my final 2 mags my groups did tighten up. The gun shot low for all my shots and sights aren’t adjustable. Recoil I felt was average considering all the extra weight up front. I found no super accuracy or low recoil like advertised. Gun had no function issues - shot 2 types of ammo. Would I buy the gun again? Probably not. It’s really just a neat designed basic shooting gun. The rear sight came lose during shooting and almost came off. Had to Allen screw it tight. The sight fits the dovetail so loosely if you flip the gun on its side it would fall out without the Allen screw- never seen that before

this is my best target of the day with it. Standing 15 yards - slight left may be me and the trigger. The low part is the sights . It shot low no matter what

now for the fun part!!! Dissembly and reassembly!!
Manual gives distance pictures for parts you really need to see up close. Dissembly went fine. It says to use a paper clip on the guide rod like a 2011 and to use a piece of rubber to protect the front of the guns finish - well why not include a .25 cent piece of rubber and a Allen wrench instead of me finding a paper clip. Gun is extremely unconventional in its mechanics. Reassembly is the fun part. Locking block part has 4 ways it can go in the gun. Which way does it go? Manual doesn’t say No close up pics. The guide rod is a wedge that interacts with the locking block. You need to think and play w it to figure out how they interact and then you see how it goes together, Guide rod spring is directional if you decide to remove it to clean the rod. Won’t go together backwards. Getting the guide rod into the locking block with spring tension took me 5 minutes of swearing. The block has no cut out for the spring to center itself and kept going L or R. The manual says to have the guide rod inside the ram when putting it together. Nope it tilts the rod and will never go together. You need to get the rod in, use the paper clip to hold the spring and then put the ram into the gun. Manual is wrong and no useful pics at all.

the gun I feel is amateur hour made. I don’t think they took people off the street and got useful info from testing. I think the gun is 1-2 more generations away from prime time

I find nothing about the gun impressive
I like odd guns and it fits that perfectly. If you own endless guns , then grab one to check it out. If your funds are limited but a CZ TSO for the same price point and shoot circles around this gun

I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts. I’m extra fussy with my review because it’s advertised as a target gun w low muzzle flip . I found neither to be true . Slide is very smooth back and forth.

Ria needs a video specific to dissemble and reassembly.

after I got it back together I felt like taking a nap. It was like assembling a mp5 trigger group :)

I’d say the most difficult pistol to reassemble I own. If I had to do it again it wouldn’t be too bad though. I understand it now.

when I was going to push the slide stop back through I saw something in the way. I took the slide off and pushed the slide stop through the slide on its own to see how that little spring held it ( I was curious). The little flat spring poped right out. Lucky I found it and figured out how to bend it back in . I struggled with every part of reassembly. If the gun had a recess to hold the main spring while pushing the guide rod through the locking block it would go much easier. Originally I had the main spring backwards and even bent the spring trying to compress it, swapping the spring around made it easier.

you wouldn’t think a main spring would be directional

pay attention to how everything looks before you dissemble. I didn’t. Your experience will be much more positive if you take pics

I don’t see any advantage to the unique locking system . It’s a sales gimmick imo

It’s why I bought it

Your sig I bought from you is a much nicer gun with less recoil

I wish u had bought your 5.0 before me so I could buy another of your disappointment guns at a lower price :)

Sometimes a gun I dislike shooting paper I find shoots steel awesome. It’s possible I’ll feel this way on the 5.0 . The archon type b is such a gun. Target shooting paper makes me yawn w it but fast shooting steel I feel it’s an above average gun

I actually saw a video review of this today, and instantly came here to see what @bac1023 had to say about this one, so thank you @huggytree for your review.

When I first saw it I instantly thought "a RIA CZ rip" then saw the square barrel, the high bore-axis, and got curious how it would shoot. When I saw the price was the same MSRP of a Shadow 2 w/optics I was skeptical to say the least, but alas we are curious creatures and love new things...right?

Thank you for saving me some money sir!
