Depending on the design of the back of the two piece I might worry about the sharp edges on it. Also with a lot of recoil springs the front is not flat and I might worry about it going through the hole in the holey recoil spring plug. Since these parts do not cost that much and are easy to change I would get a new traditional recoil spring and plug.

Thanks el Perdido. The core of my question is whether I can leave the recoil spring guide that is part of the two-piece system in place rather than getting a new one. It appears to be the same width and length, with the only difference (that I can see) being threads at the end that faces the spring plug.
The standard rod is so inexpensive , why cheap out . The exposed threads may be abrasive to the spring . If you screw the threads up on the 2 piece guide rod you can't go back .

Conversion is complete. The Wilson spring guide that I got is fantastic. I really like the bevel and the slot for the slide linkage (I believe that is the correct name?). It seems like it’s a much more impact-resistant setup for the face of the spring guide and the rest of the system.

Thanks again for sharing all of your thoughts/opinions/expertise.
