This goes for both your range gun and EDC. So what's your standard practice? Do you clean your guns after ever range trip? Or do you just leave it as is and clean it after several range outings? And what's your reasoning behind the practice?
I do put around 300 rounds through my Wilson EDC X9 every range trip. But I never need need an excuse to play with my guns! I clean them regularly. Sometimes just because I can’t go to the range. MN just restricted indoor shooting to training, only. So I took the Wilson and the Nighthawk out for a another cleaning this afternoon, instead. That said, I do love the smell of a dirty gun.I saw a Wilson Combat video where Bill says he cleans about every 300 rounds.
I personally clean every range trip as I usually shoot more than 50 per trip per gun so I feel they should be cleaned and lubricated.
Old habit from worrying about rust primarily. Doesn't apply to modern black plastic guns with treatments, but always a coat of oil for 1911s that don't have a coating.
Our nearest indoor range here in MN is still open to everyone for training. It's stated on a sign at the door, that they are not open for recreation. Yes, absolutely, my husband and I are planning on having absolutely no fun at the range this Saturday, either. We really do qualify for the exemption, though. He just purchased a Langdon Beretta last weekend. And it is, of course, of the utmost importance that we familiarize ourselves with it. ...which may take 52 or so weekends...Our nearest indoor range here in MN is still open to everyone for training. I truly believe we improve and maintain our skills, as low-level as they are, each visit. It's the only place you can go that's kind of normal, too.
